How Hysteroscopic Endometrial Ablation Differs from Microwave Endometrial Ablation
Defined Tag: Hysteroscopic Endometrial Ablation. Hysteroscopic endometrial ablation is one of the two most common types of endometrial ablation surgical techniques. Both surgical techniques are completely different in how they are conducted, how invasive they are, and what their risks include. Essentially, you should talk to your doctor about both treatments to determine which one is right for you, since each treatment is conducted differently, it makes sense that you should go over all of the pros and cons before you undergo the treatment. Out of the two types of endometrial ablation surgeries, hysteroscopic and microwave, hysteroscopic endometrial ablation is far more invasive than the microwave type of treatment. While both involve tools being inserted into your womb, the hysteroscopic, or roller ball, treatment involves the use of a small ball shaped scoop that is designed to manually scrape away the lining of your womb. Compared to the clean cutting ability of the heat generated by the microwave tool, this roller ball endometrial ablation treatment seems almost barbaric. However, even though the roller ball treatment uses an archaic device to achieve its purpose, it is less likely to cause unwanted damage than the microwave treatment - especially for women with thinner walls of the womb. Because the heat can be used to accidentally punch small holes in the walls of the womb with the microwave tool, there is a very high liklihood that damage could be done if the surgeon is not as skilled with the microwave instrument. Although the two different endometrial ablation techniques vary in the tools used, the risks are ultimately the same between the two surgeries. No matter which treatment you receive, you should not become pregnant at any time after the procedure. Furthermore, hysteroscopic endometrial ablation and microwave endometrial ablation treatments also open you up to large amounts of bleeding, discomfort, and the possibility of infection following the surgery.
