Even though the endometrial ablation is a type of surgery that is often done
on an outpatient basis, it is still a serious procedure. There are a number of
things you can to adequately prepare for the procedure and your recovery time.
If you are about to undergo an endometrial ablation procedure, here are a few
things you should keep in mind that will help make the process of undergoing
surgery and having a safe recovery much easier.

First, it is important to follow your doctor's orders to the letter. While
the list of things you need to observe in the way of food and drink are short,
they are important.  Make sure you do not eat or drink after the time frame set
by the doctor, and also refrain from any beverages that the doctors does not
want in your system during the endometrial ablation.

Keep in mind that even with outpatient procedures, patients are often put
under some sort of anesthetic. With an endometrial ablation, you may opt for an
epidermal or anesthesia. Either way, you will be in no condition to drive
yourself home after the procedure is complete. Make plans for a loved one or a
cab or car service to take you home when the doctor releases you.

Keep in mind that you are not likely to be ready to return to work the next
day. Generally, it is recommended that a woman who undergoes an endometrial
ablation procedure have four to five days to recover before resuming limited
normal activity.  Make plans with your work place or with the family so that you
will not feel any pressure to return to your normal routine before you are
ready. 

Finally, educate yourself on the possible side effects of the surgery. An
endometrial ablation procedure is invasive and it does carry the usual risks
associated with surgery. Be aware that you may experience headaches, discharge,
and stomach cramps; this will help you be prepared to deal with any side effects
that do occur, as well as help you understand they are not unusual and will pass
in a short time.
